The Harder They Come

Hi, again and again and again

Today I'm gonna do a new review, this time about a film called "The Harder They Come" (1972)

So, I hope you enjoy it. ;)

1.In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?

Ok, I' ll be honest, I din't like the film but I have to admit that I don't know why, maybe bad acting, c'mon just remember the scene when the protagonist, named Ivan, killed the other guy, I remember those screams and I laugh a lot, the blood was so fake.

One thing that I liked about the film was the music, as always. For me music is special, in every context, music touches your heart, and in this movie music was very nice. Fact about me: I hate reggae, I don't like it at all.

2. Who's your favorite character from the film?

Uhm difficult one, as I said it before, I didn't like the film so I think I don't have a favorite character.  But I do have a favorite "thing" about the movie, it is not the movie. I loved the environment in the film, I like the caribbean countries, maybe not the heat, but the flora and wildlife, all their colours. I like it a lot.

3. Would you recommend this film to someone, why/why not?

Being completly honest I say no. I think I would recommend it but no as a good movie, maybe as a historycal movie, watching it like the first Jamaican film with an hystorical importance. But I'll admit that is a good movie to learn about another culture, another type of english.

4. How does this film contribute to postcolonial identity?

I think maybe this movie it's far from being a good movie, but "The harder they come" has an important role finding a space to show the Jamaican culture, to show to the world what is reggae culture. This movie reach a hystorical level, showing us the identity of a country. Also in the movie they show to us about their geography and I loved that.

  1. I understand what you mean, I wouldn't recommend it either. Dispite of that, I value the historical importance of the film.

  2. What a shame you didnt like it. I thought it was quite good, considering the time the movie was made in. They barely had an industry back then but they managed to make a pretty solid movie in my opinion.
