Hi today I'm gonna do a review of Ghett'a life, a film from 2011 made in Jamaica. Fact, that movie was made just with US$ 1.200.000,very cheap film
1. Who was your favorite character (s) from the film? Why?
I really liked this movie, more than the other one, I think I liked all the characters, but my favorite one was Derrick Thompson, he was a brave boy who challenged all his comunnity with box. His character was a really brave one, he followed his dreams ignoring what his dad and his friends said to him. Also I liked the bad guy I can't remember his name, he was a very bad man who had all the control in the ghetto, like a gangsta.
2. How do we see the political conflict portrayed in the film? Remember to use the article Michael Manley's Vision to help you
We can see a very intense political fight, in one side we have the People's National Party (PNP), Derrick's family's side, and the other corner we have Jamaican Labour Party. Throw the movie we can see how the political conflict ain't just a theorical fight however is like a territorial fight with guns, kills and crime it's like gang fights in the USA but with a political reason.
3. How are woman portrayed in this film? Is it a little or big advancement compared to The Harder They Come?
As we talked in class Jamaica is a very sexist country, but I compare women's role in The harder they come with women's role in this movie and I can see a real change. Like in the first movie women played like the "helped ones", the women in The harder they come were the company of a man. But in this movie we can see an important role in women's feet, like Dawn Thompson who fought agains the gangs and fought with his huband who was a very agresive and political man.
I hope you enjoyed it :)
